Wiki and forum problems

We’ve been experiencing problems with our host the last week. It wasn’t possible to register on the forums, the wiki was down and everything online went a little slow.

This is just an update to tell you that it’s all fixed now! Start registering, wiki editing and surfing! :)

Bettering the community

Today I’ve been working on the easypeasyLogin framework which will evolve into being the universal account for all easypeasy stuff.

easypeasyLogin easypeasy social desktop login

The framework isn’t done, but when it is, it will first be implemented into the wiki. Then into the forums and later into the desktop, like the mockup above. Speaking of the forums, we’ve just purchased vBulletin 4.0, which will increase the quality of the forums.

easypeasy vs Jolicloud = Install Jolicloud in easypeasy

What is Jolicloud

Jolicloud is a social installation client which seamlessly installs different types of applications (Adobe Air, Debian packages, web applications). You’re able to see what friends install and recommend applications to others. It’s a nice client which tries to add a sense of web 2.0 to application maintenance.

What is easypeasy

easypeasy is an operating system for netbooks. It’s optimized for speed while including everything you need out of the box. easypeasy 1.5 was just released and included features like very fast filesystem (ext4), which brings faster boot, and 3D in 3D rendering (UXA).

Install Jolicloud in easypeasy

While it’s possible to get Jolicloud as a standalone linux distribution, it’s not recommended as their release is old and don’t bring features like ext4 and UXA (see above). If you want the social installation client, the solution is to install Jolicloud into easypeasy.

Jolicloud in easypeasy

  1. Download and install this file
  2. Log out and back in
  3. You’ll find Jolicloud under Internet

Troubleshooting

Yeah, I’m not able to install it the file above

Ugg, you’re netbook isn’t updated on what hip and trendy. Go to Administration > Update Manager and click Check. Now try installing the file again

easypeasy en-komma-fem: Get it while it's hot!

easypeasy one-point-five (or as I would say it: en-komma-fem) is finished, and it finished up real good. We’ve taken our time to iron out bugs and put in new features to again give the netbook community a great linux distribution.

You can download easypeasy 1.5 over at www.geteasypeasy.com

easypeasy 1.5 screenshot

New in easypeasy 1.5

  • New visual look by Lasse Sætre and Mark Basset
  • Awesome Linux kernel (2.6.30) optimized for netbooks with faster startup built by Martin Bammer
  • Support for more netbooks
  • Hybrid image (both .img and .iso at the same time) by Phil Howard
    • This makes it possible to move the image to the usb stick with unetbootin or dd etc. Which means it’s now possible to intall from a Mac
  • Many bug fixes [1]
  • Upgraded software (Picasa, OpenOffice 3.1 etc.)
  • Built off Ubuntu 9.04
  • Smaller harddrive footprint
  • Uses the new ext4 filesystem as default
  • UXA by default
    • The first distro to deliver real composite desktop which means it’s possible to run 3D in 3D (ie. the netbook interface and desktop effects)
  • Banshee as default music player instead of Songbird
  • Lots of clever solutions when it comes to upgrades through repositories
    • Ubuntu security upgrades are available to easypeasy users as fast as they’re released, while easypeasy isn’t overwritten by Ubuntu
  • So, what are your first impressions?
