Hi,

This tip will turn off the annoying 'viewport switcher.'

'viewport switcher' is the switching of your desktops when you hit the scroll wheel on your mouse. I don't like it either.

How to fix...

1. open synaptic and search 'compiz'
install 'compizconfig-settings-manager'
close synaptic

2. hit alt+F2 to 'run application'
type in ccsm (compiz settings manager)

3. in ccsm, look for 'viewport switcher' under 'Desktop' section.
untick that box.

4. press alt+F4 to quit.

5. enjoy!

Tangerine.

I have problems using the compiz config settings manager on my eee 701. I had the same problems already with eeebuntu3.0 and some puppy linux distribution that comes with compiz.

the unnecessary big window doesnt fit on the screen and is sticking partially on the other desktop. whenever I try to move it with ALT key, it just jumps around.

When I click on any box, the selection also jumps an something else opens.

Can I somehow manually edit the settings with gedit or any other text editor? Where do I find the file with the settings?

Thanks.

Just the same problem here with Compiz config settings manager in 701: when i tried to select desired object with mouse, it was almost impossible. When i click my mouse some other function was starting, not what i wanted and what was under the mouse pointer.
=> I succeeded to pass this problem by selecting desired object with arrow keys and after that unselecting ´viewpoirt switcher´ .

BTW: In my case there was no ´compizconfig-settings-manager´ present in Synaptic before i made some fixes to Package Manager so i was able to update packages.

I tried it a couple of times, but then for some reason the settings manager stopped jumping around and let me do the fix. I experienced that in other distributions as well. now my EasyPeasy is almost perfect,

As someone brand new to Linux, I imagine I'll have quite a few questions, but when I try to follow your instructions here, as someone else noticed, I didn't find the file 'compizconfig-settings-manager' after doing the search as you suggested. I am running 1.5. Oh, and by the way, if anyone wants to tell me how to get things into the favorites area on the desktop, I'd appreciate it....can you tell I've been doing this for 2 days? :D

yeah, i was spending to much time searching forums for getting everything done in 1.0. I am very happy that 1.5 works so much better and that the fixes are easier to find here now. really nice work from the developers!

you have change something to get more repositories in synaptic or the other package-manager for downloading programs. i do not understand why easypeasy 1.5 comes like this. how to fix this is described in this thread: http://forums.geteasypeasy.com/viewtopi ... tart#p8051

for adding programs to favourites, just rightclick them on the easy desktop and choose "add to favourites". now, thats truly easy peasy. :)

but now comes the really cool thing: to get ANY stuff into the favourites, simply drag ANY icon, mp3, document or weblink on the white easypeasy logo on top left. before in 1.0 I didn't know that and immediatly chose the normal ubuntu desktop to access my stuff quicker, but when you know this, everything makes sense now. ANYTHING you are working on or use oftenly can be in your favourites! this is soooo cool! -

the solution for the jumping compiz-settings-manager screen is for me to click on the topbar of the window, right where are icons for close, minimize etc.. probably you have to move the window first by pressing Alt-key and clicking the window.. when you hold the mouse-arrow on the one in the middle of them, a text like "disable maximize" will appear. click and see if it works. for me it does.

Thank you! A huge help. I'm sure I'll have more, but it's kind of fun playing around with something I am not so concerned about crashing....
