Hey guys =]

So i've downloaded Easy Peasy 1.0 along with Unetbootin onto my Vista machine, after using it to place the ISO onto a USB i placed it in EEEPC 1000 and booted it up (going into BIOS and changing boot order too the USB) however past the inital boot up screen (the grey asus one) all i get is a black screen with a blinking cursor; and thats it.
Can anyone give me any advice please? =[

That's strange. Did you check md5?
What version of UNetbootin? On what machine did you do the unetbootin stuff, and what machine are you installing to?
What happens if you press esc while booting up? Don't you get at screen where you can choose to boot from your usb-device? And if you the choose to boot from usb, you should get a grey screen where you can choose 'default', 'oem' and more. Choose 'default'!

Thanks for the responce,

I did check the md5 and it was fine, i got the Unetbootin from http://sleepy.no-ip.org/eee/ (chose the Windows installer) then made the bootable USB in Windows, then took the USB to the EEEPC; pressing escape during boot gave me a choice of the SDD's and the USB to boot from; which, when i pick the USB, only gives me the blank screen =[

i never even get to choose the kernal for Easy Peasy or anything =[

I've had this issue. Try reformatting your sd card or use a different card. That worked for me.

Must be either a hardware problem with your USB-stick (do you have another?), or something went wrong during the installation to USB (UNetbootin).

Could you maybe check from windows to see if there is any files on the USB at all?

If you decide to have another go, try to format your USB from windows with this tool: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197

To FAT32 format.

Could be that the bootloader didn't install very well to the USB...

Don't know. Try the reformatting thing. And maybe another USB-stick.

The files were on the USB after Unetbootin did its stuff, but im reformating to FAT32 at the moment; i did find out it was simply FAT before if that makes any difference

still no luck guys =[

Im gunna shoot off to bed now, but i can only assume its the USB's fault...
another thing was that unetbootin went through the bootloader step reeaaly fast if thats unusual (like, a second was spent on it)
thanks for the help anyway =[

Oh. Then I think I know what happened. I don't think UNetbootin is pointing to the right ISO. When UNetbootin is done there should be around 874 MB worth of files on the USB-stick. Make shure that you check that second option - to install an ISO, and that you point to the right ISO as well. And under that point to the right USB of course.
But I think I did that once myself. Not remembering to check (mark) the second option.

Hi Monsterz

Here's how I understand your problem and (hopefully) how you fix it :

You downloaded the iso to your desktop computer with Vista

You used Unetbootin Win to put this on a USB key and skipped the Reboot part (since you don't want to install this on your desktop)

You want to boot this USB key on your Eee which already has a linux system (probably 8.04.1)

I had to do the same for 8.04.1 and Easy Peasy 1.0 and it worked :

Plug your USB key in Vista and explore it

Go to the "casper" folder and copy "vmlinuz" and "initrd.gz" to the root of your USB key (for me it's like K:\vmlinuz and K:\initrd.gz)
Go to the "install" folder and copy the file "mt86" to the root of your USB key as you did just above

(for the 8.04.1 distro I also had to edit syslinux.cfg and remove the subfolder /casper/ and /install/ occurences but I found none in Easy Peasy 1.0)

And voila
I hope this'll help
